Appearance of Terrier dogs
The dogs that comprise the terrier group are mostly small to medium sized dogs, with high intelligence and personality.
Purpose of Terrier group
These dog family were developed to hunt and kill such as rats and other small animals.
Small stature of Terrier dogs
Though small in stature, most terriers are not well suited to smaller living areas such as apartments.
Terrier high energy dogs
These are high energy dogs and thats why need to quick walk and play time to maintain body temperature as well. Without exercise, they may have unwanted and destructive habits. Some breeds also have a ability to bark and yap excessively.
Lack of experience to train Terrier dogs
The strong personalities of this group of canines can pose training problems for inexperienced owners. A Jack Russell Terrier may know exactly what you want him to do - and decide not to do it. Obedience training require both calm patience, knowledge of training procedures, and the ability to convince the dog you are leader of his pack.
Personality traits and types of Terrier dogs
The joy of these small breeds is in their excitement and happy personalities. They are funny, curious, loving and loyal - always ready for a walk, a ride, an adventure. With proper training and adequate exercise, the terrier group makes wonderful companion
The Fédération Cynologique Internationale breaks down their Terrier and Companion Group (Group 3) into Sections by general dog type; within the sections the dogs are listed by their country or area of origin. Also included in the Sections are variants and colours that have to do with how they are organised during dog shows.
Fédération Cynologique Internationale recognised Terrier breeds are sorted into four sections, shown below (with their identification number.)
